The Art of Elopement

Isn't there just something so #romantic about eloping? The two of you, jetting off first class to an alluring destination with only yourselves to think of... It could just be the perfect alternative to planning that big wedding.

In recent years, eloping has made a quiet comeback and it's easy to see the appeal. With living costs escalating and it becoming increasingly harder to purchase that first home, the thought of spending £27,000 (the average cost of a wedding in the UK) on a large celebration can be just a bit much to take in. Comparatively, taking a mere 15% of this average cost and using it to purchase some gorgeous new clothes, book a trip, stay in a stunning 5 star hotel and dine anywhere you like could be the answer and combines your #wedding and #honeymoon in one!

Whilst couples still need to consider the legality of where they can actually get married I have listed some of my favourite #elopement ideas below...

In Love In London

With the newly refurbished Marylebone Town Hall having just opened, this would be my first choice of venue for a legal ceremony. From here take the walk with your photographer towards Chiltern Street Firehouse for Champagne (go straight for the Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, it's my absolute favourite!) and take advantage of the beautiful architecture in this area as a backdrop for those all important photos.

Hail a cab and head to The Langham Hotel to check in and freshen up before enjoying a gorgeous tasting meal for two at Roux at The Landau followed by a nightcap in one of the World's Best Bars; The Artesian

And of course I would always recommend booking for at least two nights so that your first day of married life begins with a sumptuous breakfast in bed and time to take full advantage of the spa.

From here, book flights to somewhere beautiful and just relax for a week before sharing the news with your family & friends...

Coastal Charm

The beauty of the English coastline continues to amaze me and if I had to choose somewhere to escape to for an elopement in the UK it would have to be Cornwall.

Splurge and hire a car that you have always wanted to drive and take your time getting down to the coast. There are a plethora of beautiful places to stay in Cornwall and below are my picks of places to elope and then gorgeous hotels to honeymoon in afterwards... This could be the ultimate #foodie road trip so don't hesitate to take in as much seafood as you can!

The Four Seasons & Florence

Italy is one of my favourite countries and the beauty of Florence never fails to impress me. The romance of this city is all encompassing and while I was researching this blog post I couldn't help but imagine how stunning an intimate wedding here could be, then I stumbled across the opulence of The Four Seasons hotel and there was no need to look any further!

Marrying in the gardens of this stunning hotel is as picturesque as it comes and with the backdrop of the Duomo, the Palazzo and the Ponte Vecchio you can't begin to imagine how gorgeous your wedding photos can be.

With an abundance of great restaurants, you are spoilt for choice on where to celebrate but I think you would be hard pressed to beat the newly launched Secret Dinner experience on the fourth floor of a privately owned 15th Century building that is available just for guests of the Four Seasons.

Guests can take in the magnificent sunset view over pre-dinner drinks before being seated at tables curated by an Artistic Director decorated with flowers and candles and revelling in the gorgeous view of the Duomo. Guests will enjoy a magical four-course menu and be attended to by a dedicated chef and personal butler and when it's time for you both to toast to wedded bliss then the penthouse terrance and it's impressive 360 degree view over Florence is clearly the place to do it.

From here, spend your honeymoon exploring the Tuscan countryside, its delicious wines and the genuine charm of Italy.

As always, whatever way you choose to get married it's going to be special but hopefully for those of you that are looking for an alternative to a traditional wedding, this has given you food for thought!
